Half way trough the regular season

Last weekend the 4th round of Latvian Baseball League’s 1th division was held in the field of Latvian University in Riga. The leaders of the tournament Riga Lions came up with 2 wins and now have won 6 streight games. Riga Diamonds/Latvian University won one and lost one and now have secured 2nd place half way through regular season. Baldone’s Baroni and Jelgava’s Hercogs both with 1 win and 5 losses are splitting 3rd and 4th place.

LBL1 round three complete

Last weekend the city of Jelgava hosted three games of LBL 1.league. Riga Diamonds /Latvian University came up with two victories and now is only 1 game behind the leaders – Riga Lions. Jelgava Dukes won their first game in LBL1.

This week in Riga there were a record amount of 8 baseball games played in one weekend. 5 games from the international tournament Interlyga and 3 more games from LBL 2nd league.

2nd round of Interleague this week

This week Latvian University field in Riga will host the 2nd round of Interlyga tournament. Minsk is currently in first place after 3 victories in Utena and Latvia is last with no victories.

Lions first after 2nd round

Last weekend the 2nd round of Latvian 1st Baseball league was held in Riga. The leaders of the tournament – Riga Lions established their lead with two more victories. The catchers of the teams showed some power this week – Riga Lions catcher K.Krapans hit two HR in one game against Jelgavas Hercogs and Diamonds/LU catcher A.Gutmais hit his first HR of his career against Lions.

First round of LBL2

On May 16th the city of Jelgava hosted the first round of this years 2nd league of Latvian Baseball Chamionships. Teikas Gaisma came up with their first ever victory in Latvian Baseball Championships and the second teams of Lions and Diamonds/LU both showed good performances on the field. Unfortunately the second league team of Baldone withdrew their team from LBL2 a day before the games so there will be a decision coming up regarding their participation.

The 2010 champioship beins

On May 8th and 9th the city of Baldone hosted the first games of 2010 LBL1. The favorite Lions won both games. This years newcomer Jelgavas Hercogs couldn’t hold on for their first win in LBL1.

Latvia falls short in Interlyga

Last weekend in the Lithuanian city of Utena the Latvian national team played their first three games of this years Interlyga tournament. Despite I.Aleksejevs and K.Duselis pitching well and A.Ansons coming up with two HR, Latvia still fell short and lost all three games.

Sternfelds, Gutmanis attending MLB try-outs

For the first time in the history of Latvian baseball two young local talents have been invited to take part in the try-out session organised by Major League Baseball. The try-outs will be held in Stocholm, Sweden. Kaspars Sternfelds (Baldones Baroni) will be taking part as apitcher and outfielder, Andris Gutmanis (Diamonds/LU) will be taking part as a catcher.
